♥ JKHA Postmortem ♥

Hi Everyone!

A little late with this Postmortem, but I wanted to make sure this was how I felt and not just as a result of the initial completion of the game.

First off, I'd like to state how happy I am with how much I've gotten done these past 2 months and with how everything has went. I've had a wonderful time, learned things, and met some really cool people and even have some future projects in the works as a result! I don't want to diminish that at all. But I do think maybe I need to approach Jams a little differently going forward.

- What I Learned In Boating School Is -

I didn't make a visual novel in 2 months, I put 2 months of work into a visual novel. (Or at least, that's how it feels.)

I made sure those 2 months were structured, scoped, and resulted in something whole and playable, but I can't truely say I'm satisfied with it as an end result.

I don't mean to say I overscoped- I never was concerned with not being able to finish. I just gave myself 2 months of visual novel work to do. This all felt like an exersize in playing it safe, making something I knew how to make.

Next time, I'd like to make something smaller and polish it a lot more.

- Moving forward -

I'd also like to continue to  work on  JKHA ,  embellish it more with more sprite variations, more effects, and just generally more fun, non-essential things. It's part of what I really enjoy with using Ren'Py for.

I wouldn't have made this game WITHOUT YaoiJam, and I don't want to discourage anyone else from having an experience like this, but this is my honest feelings about participating in something that imposes a set amount of time to work in- Maybe scoping to fit that time perfectly isn't the point.

...I feel kinda burnt out. Maybe giving myself 2 months of solid work to do without break was a little much haha;

I'll be taking a small break to rest up/recharge - I picked up Genshin Impact for the first time last week becuase they released a character who is my type (Cyno, for anyone who plays) and I've been completely sucked in.

Thank you very much to anyone who has followed these Devlogs, and who enjoy JKHA! I've had a wonderful time participating in YaoiJam and hope to join more VN Jams in the future!
