♥ Week 6 Devlog ♥


Hi Everyone! 

Week 6 is now done, we're heading towards the 3/4 mark of the Jam FAST! This week was amazing! I'm so happy with the progress made.

- Nala can emote! - 

I managed to add in ALL of Hayden and Arley's expressions into the script , with now only Nala's parts  need to be added. She''s all coded in, and ready to use. 

I've found the interactive director (Shift + R, then "D") to be useful in testing out all of a character's expressions, making sure they align/transition smoothly:

(All of these expression options make sense to me, Not sure how readable they are to everyone else)

Some fun trivia- Nala has to have more eyes than either of the boys because she needs to be able to look both left, right, and forward:

(She's missing some facial stuff, but I'll add that in as I find the need for it.)

No real change to the script in terms of word count- We're still at 19.5k, but this is with some edits / a couple of scenes being added, so I'm happy with that. 

The TODO list is both short and full of small things on it!

- BG Kawaii-ification - 

I'm almost finished with the backgrounds in their entirety! I was planning to render out the 3D models to edit them later, but I just ended up continuing to work until I had one of them done- with the process down, the others were easier to finish!

I'm super happy with the colors and how it's all looking- The game's finally starting to resemble how it will look by the end of the Jam, I'm so excited to finish everything!:



I've still got some work with the Garden and Student Council shots, but that's becuase I have more drawing over to do.  The Garden shot also has a ton of gradient maps to be run through before I have a result I can be happy with. (Still open to the idea of adding to the hallway, but it's not a NEED.)

-  Drip Check  - 

Gave Arley gloves, Finished up Hayden's coat! Now they both have some sort of outfit change I can turn on and off:

Arley doesn't wear his gloves indoors, but he's making an exception for the screenshot.

- GUI updates - 

Cleaned up the calendar a bit, plans to finish it next week:

.

Now things are readable, at the very least.

 I'd like to make it smaller and cuter! GUI plans have been made for next week:

And finally, while not STRICTLY related to the Jam, I thought I'd mention I have a little set of Chibis I added to the Jam page! I'm really liking how the cast looks together:

 


-  Getting there! - 

For Week 7, I have a clear plan on what I'd like to accomplish:

  • - Add in Nala's expressions to the script entirely
  • - Finish up the GUI entirely
  • - Finish up the Backgrounds entirely
  • - Continue working on the script, pass it onto other people for thourough review

I'm so pumped! I can feel this energy will carry me at least until the end of next week, where the game will essentially be finished. 

The rest of the Jam I'll dedicate to polishing what I have, making sure the script is as nice as it can be, adding in little animations and just making sure the final product is as nice as it can be before the Jam is over.

I'm surprised at the buffer I feel I suddenly have!  The hectic middle where I felt unsure if I could get everything completed is officially over.
